KOCHI, APRIL 10. The RSP (B) leader and Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, has said that he enjoyed the support of a majority of the party activists. Addressing a press conference today, he accused the party general secretary, A.V. Thamarakshan, of pursuing a personal agenda. He said that a meeting of the party activists under his leadership would be held in Thiruvananthapuram on Monday. The meeting would take stock of the situation arising out of Mr. Thamarakshan's reported move to pull out of the UDF. He said that he and his supporters would stand firmly with the UDF. He alleged that Mr. Thamarakshan would be happy if there was a split in the Congress. Shibu Baby John, RSP (B) MLA, was not in favour of severing links with the UDF, Mr. Divakaran said. The Revolutionary Youth Front (B) State secretary, K. Rejikumar, was also present at the press meet.
Letter to Chandy
The RSP (B) activists owing allegiance to the general secretary, A.V. Thamarakshan, will submit a letter to the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, expressing disapproval of various policies followed by the UDF Government. The letter will be handed over to Mr. Chandy on Monday or Tuesday, according to party sources. Mr. Thamarakshan had been openly criticising the Chandy Government for quite some time. It had reached a peak after the UDF refused to pay heed to his demand for replacement of the Labour Minister, Babu Divakaran, when the new Cabinet was constituted. With the pro-Divakaran faction showing no signs of a rapprochement with the Thamarakshan faction, the latter had been putting pressure on the Government. The party is planning to launch an agitation to focus on the issues raised by it.
