HYDERABAD, APRIL 10. The Bharatiya Janata Party has termed the Congress Government's Praja Patham nothing but a "gimmick" and "publicity stunt." Addressing a press conference here today, the senior BJP leader, Bandaru Dattareya, said it was unfortunate that the officials were being asked to participate in the programme at a time when they should be running around putting in place relief measures in drought-hit areas. In Praja Patham, touted as a public contact programme, officials would be simply made to watch people's representatives receiving petitions.Mr. Dattatreya recalled that the same party in power now had opposed the earlier Telugu Desam Government's Janmabhoomi and Prajalavadaku Palana, terming them as stunts. He regretted that no sooner had petitions received by the Government during Rajiv Palle Baata and "Rajiv Nagara Baata" begun gathering dust, the Government had come up with yet another programme. The former Union Minister said though the Congress Government had made tall promises on issues like free power, nothing had been done in the 11 months of its rule.
