Bid to loot bank

Unknown persons made a bid to loot the Allahabad Bank branch in Santoshnagar after sneaking inside by removing the window grills. The bank was locked after office hours on Friday and the building owner alerted the bank staff on Saturday when he found the window grills removed. Marks on the strong room walls indicated that the offenders tried in vain to break into it. They had opened the table drawers in the manager's room and threw out the papers, the Santoshnagar police said.

Petrol bunk owner robbed

Four motorcycle-borne assailants snatched Rs. 45,000 from a petrol bunk owner after attacking him with knives at Baragalli in Hussainialam on Saturday night. They also took away his scooter. Ramakrishna Bhang, 45, closed his Modern Services petrol pump at M.J. Market and was returning home around 10.45 p.m. on his scooter when the assailants accosted him. Two of the offenders inflicted knife injuries on the businessman's face, the Hussainialam police said.

Call racket: office raided

The Hyderabad police Task Force (West) officials raided Easytel communication office and arrested two persons on charge of operating an international telephone call racket on Saturday. The arrested, Shashi Bhushan Rao, 35, and K. Venkata Krishna, 23, were charged with running a telephone exchange without obtaining the Internet Telephony Service Provider license from the Department of Telecommunications, a press release said.

Handbag snatched

Two motorcycle-borne youngsters snatched a handbag containing gold ornaments weighing two tolas from a woman while she was walking at Habeebnagar on Saturday. A resident of Bazarghat, Ghousia Begum was going to her sister's house in Agapura when the incident occurred.

Woman commits suicide

Reportedly depressed over the death of her five-year-old boy, a woman committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train near Seetaphalmandi railway station on Sunday.
