Sir, — The Insight "The monotony of re-enactments" (April 10) revealed the spirit of nationalism and idealism for which Gandhiji stood. That he himself chose the group of 78 persons to march with him speaks volumes to his commitment. No doubt, the Mahatma had unflinching faith in the strength of his people who were prepared for any sacrifice.

The recollections by Dashriben Chaudhry drove home her indomitable resolve to defy the British. Instead of re-enacting the march, the Congress could have honoured such Gandhians.

Sir, — The march led by Gandhiji was the outcome of a soul-felt need to oppose inequity and tyranny.

In contrast, the Congress' re-enactment smacks of excessive self-promotion, demonstrativeness, and shallow, showy sentiment.
