Pakistan concedes Baloch demand on troops

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD APRIL 11., Pakistan has decided to withdraw security forces deployed between Dera Bugti and Sui towns in Balochistan province as part of the accord with the Bugti tribal chief and Jamhoori Watan Party president, Nawab Akbar Bugti.

The province in general and the towns in particular have witnessed violence targeted at government forces and installations by self-proclaimed nationalists since early 2004. The nationalists complain that the federal government has exploited the resources of the province without investing in the welfare of the people and that the ongoing mega projects like the Gwadar deep sea port would only lead to further "colonisation."

The Government has also decided to open the route between Dera Bugti and Sui which was closed after the March 17 clashes between security forces and tribals.
