CHAMARAJANAGAR, APRIL 11. The District in-charge and Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, H.S. Mahadev Prasad, has said that the Government will not tolerate official apathy in implementing development works in the district. Addressing presspersons after reviewing the KDP meeting here today, he said that the district stood 26th in the State when it came to literacy. Steps have been taken to implement the "continuing education" centre in the district. Mr. Prasad said work on construction of 85 school buildings will be taken up in addition to the construction of toilets and supply of drinking water in all primary schools under the Sarva Shikshana Abhiyana (SAS) scheme. Education facilities will be provided to 3,500 child labourers identified in the district. He said that the steps have been taken to provide nutritional food to 650 students residing in various hostels. Mr. Prasad said 3,045 sthree shakthi groups in the district have mobilised Rs. 6 crores. Training will be provided to sthree shakthi group members in Mulberry cultivation. He said a project to supply drinking water from river source will be taken up to provide at least 40 litres per person in the district. The first phase of the project will cover 133 villages in Gundlepet and 135 villages in Chamarajanagar taluks. He expressed satisfaction over the district administration's handling of the drinking water crisis. He expressed concern over the lack of hostel facilities for students belonging to the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes in the district. Mr. Prasad said stringent action will be taken against those high school headmasters, where the SSLC pas percentage is below 30. He said instructions have been given to officials of the Agriculture Department to stock sufficient quantity of seeds for distribution among farmers in the wake of good rain expected in the district. The Chamarajanagar MP, Shivanna, the Deputy Commissioner, Harsh Gupta, the CEO of ZP, Somashekar, and MLAs were present.
