KARWAR, APRIL 11. The Sea Bird Naval Base and Konkan Railway Evacuees' Forum has decided to depute a delegation led by its honorary president, Prabhakar Rane, to Bangalore to discuss some issues pertaining to the rehabilitation of the people affected by the projects with the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh; the Deputy Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and the President of the Janata Dal (Secular), H.D. Deve Gowda. The forum urged the State Government not to go in for an appeal against the judgment of a civil court here directing the Government to pay compensation at the rate of Rs. 11,500 for a gunta of agricultural land acquired for the Sea Bird project. Instead, the State Government should prevail upon the Centre to provide funds for payment of compensation at the rate fixed by the court. Construction of two fisheries harbours at Amdalli and Majali, providing 10 per cent reservation in State and Central Government jobs for the project affected and building infrastructure in the rehabilitation centres are the other demands of the forum.
