MALLU BHOOPALAPATNAM (VISAKHAPATNAM DIST, APRIL 11. Problems in the village mainly relating to drinking water, sanitation and irrigation dominated the Praja Patham programme of the State Government at Mallu Bhoopalapatnam in Nathavaram mandal of the district, over 100 km from Visakhapatnam. In a departure from the `interactive programme' of Janmabhoomi of the TDP government with which parallels are being drawn, there was no playing of songs on Praja Patham, no reading out of the message of the Chief Minister or no speeches listing out the priorities of the Government at macro-level. The Minister for Roads and Buildings, Jakkampudi Ramamohana Rao, patiently listened to the problems raised by villagers and elicited answers from officials. He said the programme would focus on development of the village, its problems and utilisation of funds properly.
Sarpanch gets due
When the programme first began, the Minister asked the sarpanch, Varre Satyanarayana, to speak about the problems in the village. The sarpanch said the village was facing drinking water problem and wanted four more borewells and a water scheme to be sanctioned. He also sought more houses for the BC Colony and erosion faced by the SC Colony from a hillstream flowing by to be stopped.
Probe
Mr. Ramamohana Rao said people clearly understood the nature of the programme and a total of 218 representations were received. The presence of the mandal president (of TDP) and mandal TDP president showed that participation by political parties was also good. He said the lacunae in granting assistance to members of the DWCRA group and whether there was any lapse on the part of animators would be inquired into. Also, on why houses were constructed violating the design would be inquired and action taken against who gave sanction and paid bills. He said a borewell would be sanctioned for the toilets in the village and the panchayat would construct a tank to provide water.
