JAIPUR, APRIL 11. The Rajasthan Government is considering abolition of the house tax and would soon take a decision on the issue after examining its various aspects. An appropriate decision will also be taken regarding the compensation of losses caused by this step to the municipal bodies. The Minister of State for Local Self Government, Pratap Singh Singhvi, made the announcement in the Assembly today during the question hour and assured the members that the decision would be taken shortly. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party had promised in its election manifesto that it would do away with the house tax to provide a major relief to the owners of various categories of buildings in the urban areas. The Congress MLA, Ramchandra Saradhna, raising the issue in the House, pointed out that the BJP-led Government had presented Budgets for two consecutive years after taking over, but had failed to take any step to fulfil its promise. He charged that the State Government was not clear about creating alternative sources of income for the urban bodies after the abolition of house tax.
