CHENNAI, APRIL 11. After a 20-minute meeting at the Secretariat here this morning, it was not clear who was more keen on bringing Formula 1 racing to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa or racing icon Narain Karthikeyan. Though the meeting was ostensibly for the 28-year-old motoring sensation from Coimbatore to "seek the blessings of the Chief Minister," the informal exchanges focussed on the need to bring Formula 1 racing to the State. "I was very happy both at the Chief Minister's determination to bring F 1 to the State and at the interest she showed in my own future," Narain told The Hindu . He was accompanied by his father, Karthikeyan. Ms. Jayalalithaa has already written to the Prime Minister seeking the establishment of a motor racing circuit and an automobile testing facility in Chennai, an automotive hub of the country. She noted that Narain Karthikeyan, the country's first F1 racer, hails from Tamil Nadu and there was great excitement about creating the test and racing track here. Considering the investment required for the project, it needs the full backing and funding from both the Central and State Governments. If the racing icon adds his voice to that of the Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu's case will be strengthened, making it an "automatic choice."
