Nizamabad
By Our Staff Reporter
NIZAMABAD, APRIL 11. The month-long Praja Patham launched by the Government began in the district amid tight police security. Everywhere people complained to the visiting Ministers, MLAs and authorities that there was an acute scarcity of drinking water. They insisted on supply of sufficient amount of drinking water immediately.
Other demands
Sanction of pension, houses, house site pattas and ration cards were the other demands which were prominently raised at public meetings and padayatra attended by the leaders. Except the Minister for Rural Development, D. Srinivas, who accompanied the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, in the launch of the programme in the Chevella constituency and the Ditchpally MLA, G. Ganga Reddy, all other Ministers and MLAs participated in the programme. The Speaker of the Assembly, K.R. Suresh Reddy, attended the programme at Nallur village in Balkonda mandal, while the Minister for Transport, S. Santhose Reddy, and the Minister for Information and Public Relations, Mohammad Ali Shabbir, in Armoor and Biknoor mandals respectively. The District Congress Committee president, G. Gangadhar, and the district Collector, D.V. Raidu, and the Indira Kranthi Patham (Velugu) Project Director, P. Chinatataiah and a host of officials took part at Borgoan, Tadem and Madhavnagar in Nizamabad mandal. People in Jukkal mandal complained to the MLA, S. Gangaram, that many irregularities had taken place in the issue of ration cards during the previous regime, while the present Government totally stopped issuing cards. Mr. Shabbir Ali, while addressing a press conference after touring Issanpally, Bhageerathpally, Regatlapally, Gurajakunta, Biknoor and Baswapur in Biknoor mandal, claimed that there was an overwhelming response to the Praja Patham. People were coming forward to bring to the notice of the administration their problems, particularly drinking water, he said adding that the problem would be attended to on a war-footing. Mr. Santhose Reddy laid foundations for two water schemes each costing Rs.5 lakhs at Rajaram Nagar and Teachers' Colony at Armoor town.
