CHENNAI, APRIL 11. The Chennai division of the Southern Railway bagged 11 shields this year, N. Jayaram, Divisional Railway Manager, said here today. Participating in the railway week celebrations, Mr. Jayaram said the division bagged the awards for General Manager's Inter Divisional overall efficiency, efficiency in commercial, mechanical and accounts, manpower planning, best maintained health unit and best railway school besides safety shield for overall performance. The division after seven years received the overall efficiency shield, he pointed out.
Pride of place
The Chennai division hold the pride of place as being the largest and most intensively used among the five divisions in the Southern Railway Chennai, Palakkad, Madurai, Tiruchi and Thiruvananthapuram, Mr. Jayaram said. The practice of celebrating the annual railway week was started 50 years ago to recall the achievements of the railways in each and every zone and division from the time of its inception. Maj. Gen. K.K. Kohli, Commandant, Officers Training Academy, said that the army utilised the services of the railways to a great extent, as their men and materials were moved with the help of railways. In some places such as Rajasthan, water was distributed through railway wagons, he said. Purobai Sonowal Kohli distributed prizes to railway employees on the occasion. S. Rangarajan, ADRM-I, and A. Selvaraj, ADRM-II, participated.
