DMK petitions police chief
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI,
APRIL 11.
Demanding free and fair Corporation ward by-elections, members of the DMK led by C. Kuppusamy, Member of Parliament, North Chennai Constituency, today submitted a memorandum to R. Nataraj, Greater Chennai Police Commissioner.
The members wanted adequate police protection during the polling and counting of votes. They alleged that during the previous elections to the wards in 2001, the ruling party resorted to violence and the police did not take action. This happened during counting of votes and by-elections at two wards in 2002, they said.
