Temperatures register rise
The maximum and the minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Monday were 31.4 degrees Celsius and 18 degrees Celsius respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum temperature of 31.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 18.8 degrees Celsius. While the maximum and the minimum relative humidity at Safdarjung was 36 per cent and 10 per cent respectively, Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 29 per cent and a minimum of 11 per cent.
Bootlegger arrested
The accused has been identified as Baldev Singh. The police said he allegedly used to smuggle in the liquor consignments from Chandigarh and hide them in a cavity just under the driver's seat of the Tata-709 to evade detection. During interrogation, the police said, Baldev disclosed that he used to transport the consignments at the behest of his brothers, Kuljeet and Manpreet, whose father, Mahender Singh, was also a notorious bootlegger.
Alleged cheats nabbed
A few weeks ago, 18 people were deported from Dubai for travelling without proper documents. During questioning, they disclosed that they were assured jobs by an agent, Tarsem Singh, and his accomplices, Sunil Gupta and Aman Gupta, who had charged them Rs. 1 lakh per head for the same. Investigations revealed that Sunil and Aman used to live at Preet Vihar, following which the police mounted a raid there and arrested them. During interrogation, they identified themselves as Saleem and Sirazuddin, and allegedly confessed to their involvement. Efforts are on to nab Tarsem Singh.
Three pandals catch fire
However, no one was injured in the fire which spread to three `pandals' erected in Shahdara area's Jyoti Colony near Durgapuri Chowk to mark `Navratri' festival. The fire, which erupted around 1900 hrs, was brought under control after about two hours, said sources.
Betting racket busted
They were arrested after a raid in Adarsh Nagar last afternoon after a decoy customer struck a deal with them, police said. The accused promised nine times the amount put on bet to any person who could guess the last number of winning Haryana lotteries. However, the kingpin of the racket Raju Yadav, who provided the winning numbers from Haryana, was yet to be apprehended, police said.
