Vijayawada
By Our Staff Reporter
VIJAYAWADA, APRIL 11. Steps would be taken to ensure that there is no drinking water shortage this summer in any village, said the Kankipadu MLA, Devineni Rajasekhar. If there is water shortage, action would be initiated against officials responsible, he added. The MLA participated in grama sabhas held in several villages as part of the month-long Praja Patham programme launched on Monday. He urged the Vijayawada rural mandal revenue officer, V. Srinivas Rao, to issue pattas to those who were sanctioned houses following a fire accident in the village last year.
Directive to Transco
At a grama sabha in Kotturu village, the people complained that they were facing acute drinking water shortage. The MLA asked the assistant engineer of AP Transco, Satyanarayana, and the AE of rural water supply department, Radhakrishna Reddy, to provide power from 3 a.m. for pumping of water into the tank and from 6 a.m. for its release. The Municipal Commissioner, V. Usha Rani, said even major works that come up during Praja Patham would be taken up within six months. She said the State Government had launched the programme to redress grievances of local bodies quickly. She urged officials to be proactive in recording problems of the public. The Vijayawada West MLA, Sheik Nazarvali, participated in grams sabhas held in One Town area. The Vijayawada East MLA, Vangaveeti Radhakrishna, who was indisposed, did not participate in the programme.
