Letters to the Editor
Sir, The attack on April 6 on the Tourist Reception Centre in Srinagar, where the passengers travelling on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus were housed, was cowardly. But the will of the passengers to travel despite high security risk was commendable. The India-Pakistan peace process has isolated the militants. Unable to sustain their militancy, they are indulging in desperate acts.
N.R. Ramachandran,
Sir, This refers to the PoK Prime Minister, Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan's remark that the "gun has failed" in a function organised to honour the first batch of passengers on the Muzaffarabad-Srinagar bus. It is ironical that militants bred and trained on the other side of the border struck terror on the eve of the bus journey in Srinagar while not even one incident rocked PoK, an important breeding ground for terror.
T. Vijayaraghavan,
Sir, The bus service has heralded hopes of a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute. This was evident from the spirit of the passengers who embarked on the journey despite threats from militants. One passenger even said that militants can do nothing as long as god is with the people. This is indeed a great opportunity.
D. Satyanarayana,
Sir, As a Kashmiri from PoK said, the bus journey provided oxygen to the dying patient. We should have more such people-to-people contacts and keep the dispute on the back burner. After interacting with one another, let the people on both sides decide what they want.
Gopa Kumar,
