Decline in science

Sir, — This refers to the article "Challenge to science: attracting youth" (April 9). The reasons for the drastic decline of science in India are obvious — less lucrative jobs and the prospect of a dim future. But a career in science is all about passion and the spirit to achieve.

Interest in science should be nurtured at a young age. The suggestions by the President could do a world of good in improving the status of science in the country.

R. Ganesh,
Chennai
