MUMBAI, APRIL 12. The special public prosecutor, Manjula Rao, today made an application in the special court hearing the retrial of the Best Bakery case seeking re-examination of Zaheera Sheikh, her mother Sehrunissa, and younger brother Nasibullah. The additional sessions judge, Abhay Thipsay, will pass an order on the application tomorrow. Ms. Rao intends to confront three eyewitnesses who turned hostile in the retrial with the police video which was screened in the court last Monday. The video clearly shows Zaheera, her sister-in-law Yasmin and her grandmother. Zaheera and her family had earlier testified in the retrial saying that both Yasmin and the grandmother were not present during the riots. Zaheera had said that she did not remember what happened on the night of riots on March 1-2, 2002 as there was a lot of smoke. Her mother had said she was unconscious and could not see anything. Ms. Rao has asked for recalling Nasibullah , as she wanted to examine him regarding his bank accounts. The prosecution is currently examining Himmatsinh Baria, first investigating officer in the Best Bakery case.
