PATHANAMTHITTA, APRIL 12. Hundreds of devotees witnessed the auspicious `thookkom vazhipadu' held as part of the annual Meena-Bharani festival at Orippurathu Bhagavathy Temple in Thatta near Adoor today. `Garudan thookkom' was held right in front of the sanctum sanctorum at 6 a.m. today. The `ketukazhcha' comprising six big chariots, two wooden models of bullocks and a number of small other items was taken out to the ground after circling the temple at 12 noon. The six main chariots belonged to Edamaly, Bhagavathikkum-padinjaru, Parakkara, Padukkottukkal, Mallika and Pongalady and the two giant bulls were brought by Mallika and Vayalinum-padinjaru. According to the temple authorities, 121 `vazhipadu thookkom' were held at the temple precincts today. The Thiruvathira festival at the temple will be celebrated on April 15.
