Political polarisation in State likely, says Rajagopal

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA, APRIL 12. The former Union Minister and BJP leader, O. Rajagopal, has said that the Congress central leadership is ``least bothered'' about the party's prospects in the State.

Talking to presspersons today, Mr. Rajagopal said the CPI(M) leaders were ``more influential'' in Delhi than the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, or any other State Congress leaders. The Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, would not mind the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front coming to power in Kerala in the next Assembly elections, he said.

Mr. Rajagopal said the expulsion of the former KPCC president, K. Muraleedharan, form the party would badly affect the party in the State.

He said that the Congress high command decision has once again proved the ``strong influence'' enjoyed by the organised minority communities in the party. The BJP leader said that Mr. Muraleedharan's ouster would lead to a new political polarisation in the State and the Congress was going to be the big looser.

Mr. Rajagopal said that there were many in the State who did not want either the UDF or the LDF to rule them. What they longed for was a better alternative that could ensure the well-being of the majority common masses, he said.

SNDP-NSS unity

Mr. Rajagopal said that the SNDP-NSS unity was the need of the hour. ``However, the leaders of both the organisations should be more cautious against the possibility of creating chinks in their united forum like that had happened in 1950s,'' he said.

He said that the ongoing NSS-SNDP unity move has evoked a fresh enthusiasm among the members of the two communities.

The former BJP State president, K.V. Sreedharan, and the district president, A.G. Unnikrishnan, were also present.
