NAGERCOIL, APRIL 12. A three-member team, representing the International Fund for Agricultural Development and Food Aid Organisations of the United Nations, visited the coastal villages of Kanyakumari district on Monday to collect data on the estimated loss incurred due to the tsunami. The team, comprising Marine Fisheries expert, Srikanth Shetty and Finance expert, Girija Srinivasan, held discussion with the Collector, Sunil Paliwal. The Collector stressed the need for the construction of groynes and walls to control sea erosion. He laid emphasis on establishing fishing harbours at Muttom, Colachel and Thengapattinam so that fishermen could fish in the waters along the district itself instead of going to Kerala.
