Rupee ends lower

MUMBAI, APRIL 12. The rupee today reacted downwards against the U.S. currency after central bank intervention through dollar purchases by State-run banks arrested the breach of crucial levels in otherwise quiet and range-bound trading at the interbank foreign exchange market. Closing at 43.7225/7325 a dollar, slightly lower from Monday's finish of 43.71/72, the rupee hit an early high of 43.68/69 on the back of a weak dollar overseas, which prompted central bank intervention to curb further sharp gains, dealers said. — PTI
