Breakthrough in GE Hotel issue
KOLKATA,
APRIL 12.
The efforts of the West Bengal Government to privatise the Great Eastern Hotel received a boost today, with seven employees submitting their applications for early retirement, the Tourism Secretary, T. K. Burman, said. This follows the opening of an alternative venue for employees to pick up the the application forms. This development lends credence to reports that the unions, in particular the Indian National Trade Union Congress and the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, had been physically preventing the 400-odd employees from participating in the early retirement scheme.
