NEW DELHI, APRIL 12. The two Communist Parties today welcomed the content and direction of the agreements between India and China and hoped that the future would see a much closer cooperation between the peoples of the two countries and governments. "The visit has resulted in upgrading relations between India and China to the status of a strategic and cooperative partnership'', the Communist Party of India (Marxist) noted. In a statement, the party Polit Bureau said a significant outcome of the visit was the agreement on the political parameters and guiding principles for the settlement of the boundary question between the two countries. The party said both the Prime Ministers categorically asserted that the upgrading of relations has now acquired a "global and strategic character". This, however, they assured, was for strengthening peace and prosperity between the two countries and the region. The CPI too welcomed the series of agreements and said that these will bring the two countries closer, especially the agreement on strategic partnership, and make a tremendous contribution to peace in the Asian region and the world."The principles agreed upon in the matter of solving border disputes are a great leap forward in guiding the delineation of the border between the two countries. The agreement on trade and economic cooperation will undoubtedly help both the countries,'' the CPI Central Secretariat said in its release.
