By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, APRIL 12. The Pattali Makkal Katchi Parliamentary Party leader, M. Ramadass, has said that the Pondicherry administration should take steps to recognise Scheduled Tribes in the Union Territory and provide them with welfare measures and one per cent reservation. In a letter to the Chief Minister, N. Rangasamy, (a copy of which was distributed to media persons here) today, the PMK leader said the Government could adopt a resolution in the current Assembly session to accord recognition to STs.
Centre criticised
A conference of the Federation of Scheduled Tribes today adopted a resolution condemning the Central Government's failure to recognise the STs. The Federation president, K. Ramkumar, said in a release that the quota of reservation as recommended by the Subramania Naidu committee should be implemented without delay. Mr. Ramadass addressed the conference.
