By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, APRIL 12. The Pondicherry Assembly witnessed pandemonium when A Anbalagan (AIADMK) and Anibal Kennedy (DMK) locked horns on the issue of availability of assistance to the poor for construction of houses. Even as the House was drowned in noisy scenes and heated arguments between the AIADMK and the DMK members the Speaker, M.D.R. Ramachandran, switched over to the next questions. Irked by this Mr. Anbalagan rose to register his protest stating that he had not completed his supplementary to the main question he had earlier tabled and for which the Welfare Minister, M. Chandirakasu had presented the replies. Mr.Anbalagan along with his party colleague A. Kasilingam staged a walkout to protest denial of opportunities to his party to deal with people's issues. The two members however returned to the House a few minutes later to participate in the proceedings. Earlier as soon as Anbalagan wanted to know of the total allocation made for housing scheme for the Adi Dravidars by the Department of Adi Dravidar Welfare, the Minister said that Rs 2 crores was earmarked last year for the housing scheme to the Scheduled Castes. Mr.Chandirakasu also presented constituency wise number of beneficiaries. Even as Anbalagan tried to raise a supplementary to get information on the steps taken to benefit the Adi Dravidar families in Uppalam, Mr. Anibal Kennedy rose to make certain suggestions. Mr.Anbalagan objected saying he had not completed his supplementary. Following this there was heated exchanges between Mr.Anbalagan and the DMK members. The Speaker then switched over to the next questions listed for the day.
