VILLUPURAM, APRIL 12. The Villupuram Collector, Ka. Balachandran, gave away ex-gratia payments of Rs 5.28 lakhs to the victims of multiple road accidents that occurred near Tindivanam on June 6 last year. A private bus with 65 passengers, on its way from Tindivanam to Uppuvelur, rolled down the bund and fell into a village lake at about 8.30 p.m. on that day. All the passengers were rescued and carried in a tipper lorry to the government hospital. However, en route, the tipper lorry collided with another truck at Perumukkal at about 9.30 p.m., resulting in the death of 12 persons, and causing injuries to others. The ex-gratia had been sanctioned from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund at the rate of Rs 25,000 each to the kin of the deceased, Rs 7,500 each to the severely injured and Rs 3,000 each to those who sustained minor injuries.
