Phoobalan wins

COIMBATORE, APRIL 12. Top seed P. Phoobalan lifted the open title, scoring five-and-a-half points from six rounds in the inaugural District-level chess tournament organised by the Coimbatore Chess Forum at the Geetha Hall here on Sunday.

Final standings: Open: 1. P. Phoobalan 5.5, 2. S. Ramesh (Carmel Garden) 5, 3. C.S. Rajesh (Carmel Garden) 4.5, 4. S. Anand Kumar (KCT) 4.5, 5. N. Vigneshwaran 4.5.

Boys (under-10): 1. R.V. Adith (Lathangi, Pollachi), 2. N.N. Nirmal (BVM, Pollachi), 3. M. Karthikeyan (Lisieux). Under-14: 1. C. Praveen Kumar (Carmel Garden), 2. Sachin Raj (Kendriya Vidyalaya), 3. Aswath P. Hari (Vidya Niketan).
