Madikeri
By Our Staff Correspondent
MADIKERI, APRIL 12. The Kodagu district Kannada Sahitya Parishat will constitute its units at the hobli and gram panchayat levels, in line with a decision taken at a meeting of the Central Kannada Sahitya Parishat recently, T.P. Ramesh, president of the parishat, has said. Addressing presspersons here on Tuesday, Mr. Ramesh said a minimum of 100 members were required to form hobli samitis and 25 for gram panchayat samitis. The district body will resort to collection of books from the donors to maintain a stock, which will be given as prizes to those attending the functions organised by the parishat. He said that chairman of the parishat, Chandrashekar Patil, will write to the donors of endowments to increase the endowment contributions, as it was becoming difficult to organise functions out of interest accruing on the deposits. If the donors are not able to donate more funds, they will be requested to contribute a one-time fund during the conduct of the annual endowment programmes. Mr. Ramesh said five more endowment funds had been received by the parishat recently. It had set a target for gathering 30 such funds, which will be equally distributed for organising round-the-year programmes in the three taluks. He stated that a 15-day summer camp for students of seventh to ninth standard will be held at GMP School here from April 18 to May 1. The students will be trained in drama, yakshagana, folk dances, and songs by experts. The entry fee for each candidate is Rs. 50. The Department of Education, Department of Kannada and Culture, and the Makkala Sahitya Vedike are co-sponsoring the event. The honorary general secretary of the parishat, B.M. Shamsuddin, the Block Education Officer, Sridhar; the president of the Madikeri taluk Kannada Sahitya Parishat, K.T. Baby Mathew; and the Assistant Director of Kannada and Culture, Damodar, were present on the occasion.
