TDPs' s charge against irrigation advisor

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 12. The Telugu Desam Legislature Party on Tuesday submitted to the Speaker, K.R. Suresh Reddy, a notice of breach of privilege against P. Sitapathi Rao, Advisor to the State Government on Irrigation, for the way he behaved with its party MLA at a recent open debate.

At a press conference, the party's deputy floor leader, T. Devender Goud, and Ch. Rajeswara Rao, MLA, alleged that the advisor was behaving like an agent of the Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. "Mr. Sitapathi Rao should have given more respect to our representative at the debate keeping in mind that he is a sitting member of the Assembly," they said.

They said by constantly blaming the TDP and alleging that the Opposition was against more irrigation projects in the State, Dr. Reddy was only side-stepping the pressing problems.

"Why will we oppose irrigation projects when we have done more for people in nine years than the Congress has done in three and a half decades?" they asked.

Referring to Dr. Reddy's "Praja Patham" yesterday in Ranga Reddy district and his reported interaction with farm labour, Mr. Goud said the labourers hailed from Mahabubnagar district from where they had migrated in search of work.

"If the Chief Minister had created work for them in their native district, they would not have migrated at all," he said.

BJP faults debate

Meanwhile, the BJP legislator, G. Kishan Reddy, has taken exception to the conduct of some officials during the open debate.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Reddy accused officials of acting as Congress agents.

He condemned the accusation hurled by a senior official that opposition parties were making wild charges to get commissions.

Mr. Reddy reiterated the demand that files pertaining to the tenders should be placed before the Speaker for scrutiny.
