HAVERI, APRIL 12. The patience of people is appreciable as they have put up with the inconvenience at the district hospital, the Minister for Health, N. Cheluvaraya Swamy said after a visit to the district hospital here on Monday. Mr. Swamy was accompanied the Minister for Science and Technology and in-charge of the district, Basavaraj Horatti. Mr. Swamy said that it is shameful that the State Government has not been able to provide basic amenities at the hospital even eight years after the formation of the district. Steps have to be taken to ensure that the hospital is equipped to provide quality healthcare to the people, the Minister said. The Minister was surprised that there was a long queue of women waiting to be treated. He was informed that there is only one lady doctor to attend to them. The Minister, who later inspected the pharmacy wing, expressed concern over the manner in which records were maintained. Mr. Sawamy was also told that the department concerned had not taken any action against a staff member who was caught selling medicines meant for use at the hospital. He was appalled when he saw that patients were sleping on the floor as there weren't enough beds in the hospital to accommodate all in-patients.
