Former weightlifting champion dead
He fell into the Tirur river. Jose, 53, was the only body builder in the State to have received an accreditation of the National Institute of Sports (NIS). He was working as manager of the Syndicate Bank here. According to his friends, Jose had suffered a heart attack about a week ago. Witnesses said that Jose had a cardiac arrest while leaving the office for home today. On feeling uneasy, Jose sat at the jetty on the Bypass Road but fell into the river. Though he was rushed to the hospital, he died on the way. Jose, who hails from Thiruvambadi in Thrissur, is survived by his wife and two children. Jose's death has come as a shock to the body building fraternity in the country. A former associate secretary of the Indian Body Building Federation, Jose was regarded as a pioneer of body building in Kerala. He had been the State champion for several years during the early 70s. He had bagged the national championship more than once.
