KOLLAM, APRIL 12. More than 2,000 country boats will be anchored from Vizhinjam to Kollam on May 1 to form a chain. The stir is being organised to press for the Vizhinjam port. At a recent press conference here, the convener of the event, Antony John, said the organisers hoped that the event would qualify for an entry into the Guinness Book of World Records. Mr. John said Vizhinjam was only 10 nautical miles from the international shipping channel and the proposed port area had a depth of 24 meters, which did not require any dredging. Vizhinjam is ideal to house a container transshipment terminal.
