Traders hold rallies

NEW DELHI APRIL 12 . To protest against implementation of the Value Added Tax regime, the trading community staged demonstrations at various places across the Capital today. In a statement, the president of the Confederation of All India Traders, Vijay Goel, said the Delhi Government's new taxation policy would result in a steep rise in the prices of quite a few commodities. He said VAT would not only affect the traders, but also the consumers.

MAMC Convocation

NEW DELHI APRIL 12. The Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, B.L. Joshi, today said medical care was as important in rural areas as in urban ones. Addressing the 47th Annual Convocation of the Maulana Azad Medical College here today, Mr. Joshi said despite lack of modern facilities in rural areas, doctors should honour their professional commitments by willing to work there. The Delhi Health Minister, Yoganand Shastri, was also present on the occasion.

Contest for creative talent

NEW DELHI APRIL 12 . To promote fresh creative talent in the country, the Maya Academy of Advanced Cinematics (MAAC) is organising a competition titled "24 FPS" in Mumbai on May 6. According to the Chief Executive Officer of MAAC, Rajesh Turakhia, the Animation and Visual Effects Awards were instituted in 2004 to give the students a platform to use their skills in a real life project.

For the competition, the participants have been asked to prepare a one-minute film conveying any social message on AIDS, anti-pollution drives, alcoholism and adult education.
