DEHRA DUN, APRIL 12. The State Budget for 2005-06 was hurriedly passed by a voice vote and the Uttaranchal Assembly adjourned sine die today even as the entire Opposition moved into the well seeking discussions on various issues. For a change, it was the turn of the Opposition to raise slogans today -- a practice adopted by ruling Congress MLAs for most part of this Session. The Bharatiya Janata Party and Bahujan Samaj Party MLAs moved to the well as soon as the House assembled and raised slogans against the `highhandedness' and utter disregard to democratic processes by the ruling party. The BJP wanted a discussion on the deteriorating law and order situation as several innocent people including a municipal corporator's wife in Haldwani had been brutally murdered and dreaded criminals including terrorists were able to find safe hideouts in Dehra Dun. "Several weeks have passed since these murders have taken place and the police is no where near nabbing the culprits'', the former Chief Minister, Bhagat Singh Koshiary, Leader of the Opposition, Matwar Singh Kandari and the former Speaker, Prakash Pant, said. The BSP MLAs led by Narayan Pal wanted a discussion on delays in the filling up of a large number of reserved vacancies in various departments. The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal members used the microphones to demand that Gairsen be declared the Capital of Uttaranchal. The Speaker adjourned the House first till 12.20 p.m. and then till 3.00 p.m. As the din continued, the Budget was passed and the House adjourned sine die.
