NEW DELHI, APRIL 12. Accusing the Sheila Dikshit Government of wasting public money and being unaccountable to the Constitutional authorities, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party president, Harsh Vardhan, today alleged that the Comptroller and Auditor-General had pointed out glaring discrepancies and misuse of funds totalling Rs. 1,144 crores in its latest report submitted to the Delhi Assembly. Addressing a press conference, Dr. Vardhan said the CAG had also made strong observations about the internal control and audit of the private power companies. The CAG has stated that the documentation of the income and expenditure and important happenings of the private companies was insufficient and these companies had not followed the basic principles of audit. The rules of business have been overlooked. It does not have manual of internal audit. The CAG has observed that the staff of the private power companies was not trained and acted as if they were not accountable to anybody. The internal audit report of these companies was not submitted to the Delhi Transco and Indraprastha Power Generation Company for discussion, something that was a necessary condition under the privatisation process. The biggest scam after privatisation of power was the cleaning of river the Yamuna where Rs. 872 crores had gone down the drain without any positive results he alleged. needed to be probed thoroughly. .
