Complexes sans parking lots face action

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 12. The Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Tuesday directed the officials concerned to crack down on the multi-storied commercial complexes that were violating the building rules by not allotting parking space for vehicles.

During a meeting with the police, the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH), the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and other officials, Dr. Reddy discussed at length the hindrances to smooth flow of traffic in the city.

Coming down heavily on some departments for discontinuing road-widening and neglecting removal of bottlenecks on the main junctions, Dr. Reddy wanted even the religious structures on the middle of the roads to be shifted to other areas as was done in Mumbai.

Deadlines

The Chief Minister gave deadlines to the officials concerned to come up with a roadmap for the next one year with regard to widening of roads, especially in the old city.

Dr. Reddy also made a specific reference to the new rail (metro/mono) connectivity and directed officials to come up with a roadmap so that the project could be completed in the next 18 months.

Multi-level parking

He also pointed out the delay in shifting of electric poles, laying of slip roads and also in identification of more parking slots. Efforts should be made for providing satellite parking places for trucks and buses and hiring private buildings for constructing multi-level parking places, he said.

"I want to see some progress everyday," he asserted.

Dr. Reddy, however, turned down a proposal for enhancing penalty for violation of traffic rules stating that he wanted people to be enlightened on traffic rules rather than being penalised heavily.
