`Kavyapuja' held at Asan memorial

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 12. Leaders of the present day tend to forget the small things of life in their pursuit of big things, as a result of which human values get trampled upon, the noted poet Vishnunarayanan Namboodiri has said.

He was speaking at the end of a day-long reading of poems, `Kavyapuja,' organised at the Kumaran Asan Memorial at Thonnakkal near here today in connection with Asan's 132nd birth anniversary celebrations.

Mr. Namboodiri said Sree Narayana Guru and Kumaran Asan paid attention to the smaller things of life and affixed great value to them.

Asan's poetry stood out because of this minute vision of life.

Earlier, inaugurating the poetry session, the noted poet O.N.V. Kurup said Asan gave a new diction to Malayalam poetry. His poetry outlived time and spatial boundaries by its originality of language and its unique aesthetics. More than a 100 poets, including Mr. Namboodiri, Mr. Kurup, Kadammanitta Ramakrishnan, Ezhachery Ramachandran, Meloor Vasudevan and Mullanezhy, read out poems at the session. The five-day celebrations will conclude on April 15.
