Work on tourist centre

KOCHI, APRIL 12. The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) has been entrusted with the task of constructing the tourist amenities centre at Vallarpadom Basilica. The Minister for Tourism, K.C. Venugopal, announced this after he visited the shrine today. The canal cleaning work in the vicinity will be done under the supervision of the Cochin Port Trust. The MLA K.V. Thomas, the District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish, the Cochin Port Trust Chairman, Jacob Thomas, and Daniel Acharuparambil, Archbishop of Varapuzha, were present during the Minister's visit.

CAG coming tomorrow

The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, Vijayendra Nath Kaul, will arrive in Kochi on Thursday as part of a two-day visit to Kerala. On arrival at Nedumbassery, he will proceed to Thrissur to lay the foundation stone for the AG's office staff quarters project.

Passports despatched

Regional Passport Office, Kochi, has issued passports for applications received till February 24. Passports have been despatched in the week ending April 8, according to the Regional Passport Officer.

Radio programme

The Akhila Kerala Radio Listeners' Association has said that the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, S. Jaipal Reddy, has given an assurance to consider the transmission of Vivid Bharati (commercial broadcasting service) from All India Radio, Kochi. The association had earlier submitted a letter before the Minister to take steps for transmission of Vivid Bharati.

Legal literacy camp

Ernakulam Service Society and School of Legal Studies at the Cochin University of Science and Technology will conduct a legal literacy camp for women at ESSS Hall on Wednesday. The camp will start at 9.30 a.m.

Meeting

K.B. Raveendranathan Nair, chairman of the third State Finance Commission for Local Governing Bodies, will hold a discussion with Secretaries of local governing bodies in the district at Ernakulam Town Hall on April 15, at 2 p.m., according to the Panchayat Deputy Director, M.P. Rajan.
