`94 per cent not satisfied with sanitary conditions'

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 12. The Leader of Opposition in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, Subhash Arya, today quoting a public opinion poll survey said that 94 per cent of the citizens were not satisfied with the sanitary conditions in Delhi.

Noting that Councillor, Ram Kishan Singhal of the BJP, had drawn the attention of the House yesterday to the fact that the citizen's perception of the sanitary system was extremely poor, Mr Arya said citizens also felt that their grievances were not heard and that the sanitation workers did not turn up on time.

Stating that garbage was left strewn around which led to spreading of foul odour, mosquito breeding and increases the risk of spread of diseases, Mr Arya said it was a pity that the drains were also not desilted properly.

Incidentally, Mr Arya said that senior Congress Councillors and the Chairman of the Public Health Commtitee, Jagdish Pradhan, had also supported the contention of the BJP and supported its raising of the issue.

Pointing out that the new Mayor had also stated yesterday that he would give top priority to sanitation and would call a Special House for discussion on the issue, Mr Arya said the House had accorded permission to purchase new trucks but the Congress administration had not been able to procure them till date due to its inefficiency.
