NEW DELHI, APRIL 12. A resident of Haryana who attempted to rob a call centre Toyota Quails along with two of his associates was arrested by three police personnel after a dramatic chase -- during which the culprits also opened fire on the police -- in the Uttam Nagar area of West Delhi last evening. The police said it was around 8 p.m. when the car driver, Vicky Kumar, a resident of Gurgaon, was passing Dabri Mod that the three culprits waved him down for a lift. Vicky obliged the trio who soon after showed their true colours and threatened him with a country-made firearm. The accused then also beat up Vicky in order to snatch the vehicle. However, the cries of the driver caught the attention of three police personnel who were riding two motorcycles and they gave the vehicle a chase. Seeing the police personnel following them, the culprits opened fire. But no one was injured in the firing. Despite the firing, the police personnel did not give up chasing the Qualis and soon caught up with it. In the ensuring melee, however, while one of the accused, Bhupender, was caught with the firearm, his associates managed to escape. The police personnel then also rushed a grievously injured Vicky to DDU Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries. The Uttam Nagar police have registered a case of attempted robbery and were trying to apprehend the other accused.
