BANGALORE, APRIL 12. Air Vice-Marshal, Ajith Lamba, and an M.Tech. student of the Indian Institute of Science had a miraculous escape when the two-seater Hansa aircraft they were flying crashed into a lake off Sarjapur Road on Sunday evening. Lamba, the pilot, and the student had completed three sorties when the aircraft, owned by the Centre for Airborne Systems, crashed into the lake, reportedly because of a technical snag. It is learnt that the student was making sorties in the aircraft as part of his aeronautical engineering course. After the accident, residents of the villages around the lake rushed to the spot and rescued the two persons. The wreckage of the aircraft was taken away in a Defence vehicle. It is said the propeller was detached from the aircraft.
Before Wen's arrival
The incident occurred around 5 p.m., an hour before the Chinese Prime Minister, Wen Jiabao, landed in Bangalore.
