Bratchikova stunned

Special Correspondent

MUMBAI: Sai Jayalakshmy stunned Russia's Nina Bratchikova 6-4, 7-6(9) in the ITF Women's tennis tournament at the MSLTA. The victory, marking the top seed's exit from the $25,000 event, vaulted the Indian into the singles quarterfinals.

Sai depended on groundstrokes to pull out of the tight spots against the hard-hitting Russian. The unseeded Indian won on her sixth matchpoint in the second set tie-breaker.

"I stuck to my game, relying on what works well," she said, piling up points against an error-prone top seed, topping the singles draw at 214.
