CHENNAI: Four cases of house break-ins have been reported in the city on Tuesday and Wednesday in which a total of 25 sovereigns of jewellery, Rs. 71,000 in cash and a laptop were stolen. The police said a stranger entered the house of one Ramachandran, a resident of Mangala Nagar under the SRMC police limits early Tuesday morning and took away 12 sovereigns of jewellery. Mr. Ramachandran was asleep and his wife was out for a walk at the time the incident happened, police said. In the second incident, thieves broke into the house of one Shabeer in Jambuli New Colony, Kodungaiyur, and took away 13 sovereigns of jewellery and Rs. 60,000 in cash. The Kodungaiyur police are investigating. Two other cases were reported in Adyar. The first was the house of one Vishnu Varadhan, a resident of Padmanabha Nagar 4th Street. Intruders made away with Rs. 5,000 in cash. The incident came to light when the family returned home on Wednesday, the police said. In the second incident, which happened at an office of a private company on 2nd Avenue, Sastry Nagar, the culprits took away a laptop and Rs 6,000 in cash, the police added.
