This Day That Age
The Egyptian Prime Minister, Lt. Col. Gamal Abdel Nasser, assured members of both Houses of Parliament in New Delhi on April 14 that Egypt would collaborate with India to maintain peace and would work for justice and prosperity of all nations. Col Nasser, who received thunderous applause frequently during his address, recalled that India and Egypt had once been the builders of great civilisations. "We have both given to the world a great deal of knowledge, wisdom and love. It is time we continue what we have given. The torch has never fallen from the hands of our ancestors and it is our duty now towards our people and generations to come to make the torch illumine more. The Vice-President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, who conducted Col. Nasser to the dais in the Central Hall, recalled that India had had contacts with Egypt not for centuries but for millenniums. Situated in Africa, on the threshold of Asia and Europe, Egypt happened to be what might be called a meeting point of the crossroads of the world.
