Postal staff to help revise electoral rolls

    VELLORE: The Postal department will help in the revision of electoral rolls in Vellore district.

    A training programme on summary revision of rolls was conducted for Senior Superintendents of Post Offices (SSPs) in Vellore district under the presidentship of the Collector, S. Gopalakrishnan here on Tuesday.

    The SSPs were asked to receive applications at all post offices for inclusion and deletion of names and corrections in the existing electoral list, such as change of address, from April 30 to May 30. The application forms will be available at the post offices.

    Application form no.6 should be issued for inclusion of names, form 7 for the deletion of the names of deceased/migrated voters, form 8 for corrections of details pertaining to the name, age and sex of the voters and form 8-A for change of address.

    The Collector told the postal officials that they should conduct enquiries into the applications, submit reports to Revenue Divisional Officers and display the electoral list for the perusal of the public.

    The postal officials were asked to avoid issue or receipt of applications in bulk.

    The Collector asked the SSPs to ensure participation of all the postal offices in the special camps for revision of voters' list to be held on May 7, 8, 21 and 22 and to complete the training for all the postal officials by April 25.

    The concerned RDOs and tahsildars were asked to impart training to the postal staff.

    V. Sampath, SSP, Arakkonam, A. Shanmugam, SSP, Tirupattur, S. Vasudevan, Assistant Superintendent of Post Offices, Vellore, C. Gopalakrishnan, District Revenue Officer, Vellore and all RDOs and tahsildars participated in the training programme.
