DUMP UNEARTHED: The police look at the arms seized in Anantapur district on Thursday.
ANANTAPUR: The district police have unearthed a massive dump of the Maoists containing arms, ammunition and communication gadgets near Vankarakunta village in Nallamada mandal of the district along with the course of the Chitravati river. Giving details to newspersons here on Thursday, the DIG of the Anantapur Range, N. Jayarami Reddy, said the dump was found during the combing operations of the special police parties and investigation into the killing of two persons by the Maoists recently in Nallamada and Bukkapatam mandals, suspecting them to be police informers. The dump was concealed in huge cement pipes buried at three places in the Chitravati forest area. The material seized from the dump included seven fire arms (one SLR, one 303, one sten gun and four tapanchas), 207 rounds of ammunition pertaining to 9 mm, .38 mm and 7.62 mm calibers, three hand grenades, seven tin bombs, 250 electric detonators, 200 gelatin sticks, two fuse wire bundles and five camera flashes. Communication gadgets including three ICOM sets, three Motorola sets, two wireless scanners, a tape recorder, a solar charger, four torch lights, 10 kit bags, 12 pairs of shoes, diaries, literature, compact discs, audio cassettes, party flags and banners were also seized from the dump.

The dump was unearthed on the information given by a dalam member, who had participated in the raid on the police outpost at Venkatammanahalli in Karnataka and was arrested by the district police. The SLR seized in the dump was one of the 10 SLRs looted by the Maoists from Venkatammanahalli and the .303 rifle was theft from the NCC camp near Narasaraopet in Guntur district. The DIG appealed to people to confront the Maoist acts of killing innocents suspecting them to be police informers by staying united and prevent recurrence of violent incidents. He also urged the youth not to fall in the Maoist trap and spoil their lives. The Superintendent of Police, R.S. Praveen Kumar, was also present.
