`Ambedkar's ideas will help oppressed classes find new direction'

CHITRADURGA: The Bharamasagar MLA, H. Anjaneya, has called upon people to help educate and organise the oppressed classes so that they can become a part of mainstream society.

Addressing a large gathering here to celebrate the 114th birth anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar on Thursday, Mr. Anjaneya said that the thoughts of Dr. Ambedkar should not be confined to one particular section of society but adhered to by all sections.

Dr. Ambedkar was not merely the voice of a particular community, but the voice of all oppressed classes.

His thoughts and theories will definitely help the oppressed classes find a new direction, he said.

"The problems of Dalits will not be solved by fighting to get them entry into some temples. Real change can be brought about only when more and more Dalith strive to make a place for themselves in the real temples of democracy such as the legislatures and Parliament," Mr. Anjaneya said.

He asked them to eradicate untouchability and elect their representatives on the basis of merit and commitment to social justice.

Mohan, Nellikatte Siddesh, Kariyappa, and Chandrappa, youths from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, who received their Ph.Ds from various universities, were felicitated on the occasion.
