JD(S) to hold slum dwellers' meet this month

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: The Janata Dal (Secular) will organise a convention of slum dwellers here by the month-end to demand housing and better living conditions for them.

Addressing a convention on awareness about the fundamental rights among slum dwellers on the occasion of 114th Ambedkar Jayanti celebrations at the party headquarters here, the Janata Dal (S) President and former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, said the party will organise a convention of slum dwellers from 12 Assembly constituencies in Bangalore who have been deprived of their land, and demand that the Government build houses for them soon.

Mr. Deve Gowda said he will visit 10 slums here in the next few days to collect information about basic amenities available or denied to those people living in them.

The party candidates who contested unsuccessfully in the last Assembly polls, party office-bearers and councillors will visit slums and mobilise at least 1,000 people from each slum for the convention, he added.
