Driver held on stealing charge

HYDERABAD: Officials of the Hyderabad Task Force on Thursday arrested Syed Khursheed (35), a driver of a debris-collecting vehicle belonging to the Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH), on the charge of stealing diesel from the vehicle.

A woman, Bee Jan Bee, and her relative, Md. Khadeer, were allegedly procuring diesel from Khursheed at the rate of Rs. 24 per litre and selling it to others at Rs. 27 a litre, a press release said. While Khadeer was arrested, Bee Jan Bee was still at large.

Succumbs to injuries

Hasina Begum (27), one of the two housewives who was assaulted by a suspected robber in her house at Chikkadpally four days ago, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital.

Condition of the other victim, Shamim Begum, was out of danger, the police said. The `attention diversion' gang struck in the city on Wednesday relieving a man of Rs. 1 lakh. Vidyasagar (50), along with his friend, Ramchander, was returning home on a motorcycle. When he reached St. Ann's School, two motorcycle-borne youngsters told Ramchander that something fell on his shirt. On finding saliva on the shirt, he went to a shop to wash off the dirt. On returning, he found the bike's side box broken and the cash stolen.
